White Cosmopolitan Ghost

White Cosmopolitan Ghost Cocktail

Every Halloween, I like to welcome the spirits. Both literally and figuratively. Inspired by my girlfriend Kirstin’s Friday night ritual, she drinks a Cosmo every Friday regardless of where she is in the world, I decided to spook out this drink.

Most of you guys know that a Cosmopolitan, or Cosmo, is a delicious cocktail made with vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and freshly squeezed lime juice. I love a Cosmo because it is a complex mix of things. The citrus is both tangy and sweet, and despite its potency, the iciness makes it totally refreshing! It’s no surprise that the Cosmo consistently ranks as one of the most ordered cocktails in America.

This Halloween, I am doing a riff on the classic Cosmopolitan Cocktail by making it with white cranberry juice to give it a decidedly ghostly look. And, contrary to popular opinion, it is definitely not a girlie drink. Don’t let the delicate glass fool you, this is a wickedly strong cocktail. Brace yourself boys.

Some of you may know this cocktail as a White Cosmo.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Vodka (I use Absolut Citron which is a clear lemon flavored vodka)
  • 1 oz. White Cranberry Juice
  • 1 oz. Triple Sec (I use Cointreau which is a colorless orange flavored liqueur)
  • Squeeze of fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. of Simple Syrup (optional if you want a sweeter drink)
  • Ghoulish garnishes

To make: Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes and add all ingredients. Shake well and double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with ghoulish candy! If you are making for a crowd, you can easily multiply this recipe and store in a pitcher in the refrigerator until your guests arrive. This is best served ice-cold, so you will still want to shake up all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. How long to shake it? I was once told that you should hold the cocktail shaker in your hand while shaking the ingredients and once the cocktail shaker becomes too cold to hold, it’s time to pour.

Cheers to you and have a Happy Halloween weekend! xo
