| Kerry and me at the beach |
One of the most romantic and unforgettable things that my husband has ever done was to ask me if I wanted to watch a movie. This may not sound like a big deal unless you understand what happened. When Kerry and I were first dating, he was living in Indiana and I was here in Connecticut. Due to our busy careers, we’d only be able to see each other a couple weekends a month. On a Friday of one of the weekends that we weren’t planning to see each other, he called me from his cell phone and said “Hey, will you watch a movie with me?”
My heart leapt because I thought he was surprising me with a visit and that he was actually at my front door! Unfortunately, he wasn’t, but he did the next best thing. Kerry invited me on a “virtual date” to watch the same movie at the exact same time. We picked a RomCom, pressed play, and stayed on the phone so we could chat throughout the entire movie. After a while, I was so engrossed in the movie that I forgot he was miles away and it felt like he was sitting right next to me.

Because I know you are curious, we agreed on a movie that I had never seen before, The Princess Bride. We are celebrating our 20-year wedding anniversary next month, and still to this day, this virtual movie night remains one of our most memorable and romantic dates. Long distance relationships are really hard, it is easy to get pulled away into the day-to-day demands of life, especially when you have children. I hope that this idea inspires you to make time to stay connected to the ones you love.
