We finally tried The Spread, a restaurant in SoNo I’ve been dying to visit after hearing countless rave reviews – including being named as Connecticut Magazine’s 2015 Expert’s Picks for Best American. After hearing such great things about The Spread, I went in expecting to be impressed – and I was.
Located in South Norwalk, CT, The Spread has an authentic industrial vibe, there is even a working garage door in the front that is raised in the summer for outdoor dining. We made reservations and were seated immediately even though the rest of our party had not yet arrived (bonus points for that). Then we met Fernando. Fernando was our waiter that evening and kept us entertained with his cool hair, big personality and contagious smile. The food was spectacular and their quick rise in two short years to secure a spot in the 2014 The Best of the Gold Coast, American Restaurant, was well deserved. We sampled starters of Black Truffle Risotto Balls, Spread Bread and Veal and Ricotta Meatballs that were cooked so perfectly they practically melted in your mouth. I should mention that the food is served on beautiful, old mis-matched china, which made me feel like I was sitting at my Grandmother’s table. The rest of our dishes were equally delicious (Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Massaged Kale Salad, Grass Fed Short Rib) served up from the kitchen led by Executive Chef, Carlos Baez. For more about The Spread, their menu and calendar of events, check out their website. When you go, be sure to ask for Fernando.
