The Farmer’s Daughter – Rhode Island
Not far outside Newport, Rhode Island, is a plant store unlike anywhere I’ve been. The plants and produce are displayed so beautifully, it’s akin to how an interior designer decorates a home. But with pumpkins. I was so enamored by each of the exhibits that were lined up around the farm and I asked one of the employees who did the decorating. Before she could answer, a co-worker joined her and they both grinned as they said “We all do!”
Seriously, if this is what they can do with a pumpkin, I want to see what their homes look like. Jeez.
I strolled around and snapped photo after photo appreciating every little detail. Nothing here is casually arranged. Each composition is thoughtfully balanced with complementary colors, objects that play together harmoniously and a masterful eye to light and space. The thing is, it looks natural and not forced. I know that a woman in overalls and dirt on her hands created the displays. But no one agonized over them, they’re pros. As you look through these images, you’ll see that nothing is crowded. The light that sits around each product simultaneously unites them and spotlights them. I felt like I was in an art gallery.
I hope that these photos get you some ideas and inspiration for decorating this fall. The color palette of greens, whites, greys and browns is a favorite of mine. Visit The Farmer’s Daughter website for much more information. In addition to plants and seasonal vegetables, they also sell home goods, offer DIY classes and rent spaces for events and weddings. This is a must see if you are ever in the area, if not, enjoy this virtual tour. I’m sorely tempted to visit in December to see what they have planned for the holiday season. I want to give a shout out to my friend, Kirstin, for introducing me to this place!
