For Like Ever, The Cult Poster.
Please tell me that you have seen this poster. It pops up a few times a year as I am flipping through interior design magazines. The design is so unique, it practically jumps off the page. I feel like the people who own this poster are part of a club. It has become somewhat of an icon on the West Coast.
The story behind the poster is really charming. It is about a young Yale grad student who is majoring in graphic design. She makes a poster as part of her thesis topic, based on the phrase “Like For Ever” that was used over and over again by one of her students during a workshop she taught one summer. The phrase was spoken in the best California Valley Girl accent you can muster. I imagine it sounds something like this “Like Fur Ev-her” I can totally hear it in my head. So rad.
Years later, her poster eventually makes it on the cover of Domino magazine and the rest is history. Overnight fame.
If you are familiar with this poster, you many think that it is overdone. Perhaps you have seen it in one too many homes? Not me, I can’t get enough of it. If I were to see this poster in someone’s home I would know immediately that they pour over design magazines and appreciate the inherent laid-back vibe that this poster brings to any room.
I’ve seen it used in lots of spaces, but mostly in nurseries and children’s rooms. It sends a sweet message of “I will love you forever.” I plan to get one for Catherine’s room when we redecorate her room into her first big girl room. She’s turning 5 next month (I can’t believe it!) and it’s time for a new bed, window treatment, wall color and rug. She has a small room, so I am leaning towards lavender for everything. It will be very monochromatic and I am hoping it will make the room feel spacious. I’m on the fence about which color poster to use though. It is offered in eight different colors from the classic red/pink which most people recognize and other really vibrant colors like spring green. I know that the room will need a pop of color and it is so hard to choose! They also have more muted variations that would look great in an adult’s bedroom.
If you are interested in purchasing this print, you can buy it here. It is $65.00 and the shipping is FREE! I’ve included some images of rooms where this poster is displayed so you can get an idea of how it might look. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, this would make a great gift.
