Over the next several weeks, we can absolutely plan on school delays and closings based on the wintry weather. We already have had a couple days off and I have to admit, I love snow days as much as my kids. It is an unscheduled day where we have the freedom to do whatever we want without keeping an eye on the clock to make sure we get ready for gymnastics, basketball practice, etc. One of our traditions on snow days is to pull out some of our favorite board games. I have a soon-to-be 11-year old and a soon-to-be 3-year old and I saved the games that we bought when our son was a toddler and now our daughter can play with them. Just like Monopoly, there are certain games that are always fun and I am so glad that I kept them. In Connecticut we have several “old fashioned” toy stores that still focus only on selling toys and games. Whenever possible, I shop locally. One of my favorite toy stores is the New Canaan Toy Store at 94 Park Street in New Canaan, CT. I like going there to buy gifts for my children and for their friend’s birthdays and other special occasions. You can always count on their personalized service and great recommendations by age group.

“Animal Bingo” is one of our favorite games. What attracted me to this board game at first was the cover. It is so whimsical.
Each game includes 6 round game cards, 36 playing chips and a draw bag to neatly store the chips.
I like how the maker, eeBoo, chose less known animals and insects such as a Hedgehog and Snail that you don’t normally see in children’s books. Their slightly obscure choice of animals is also a fun introduction to the animal planet.
“Feed the Kitty” is another favorite. This is a great game for 3-5 year olds. You take turns rolling the dice and follow the images on the dice. This game is simple to learn and can actually go on for a long time based on what the dice tell you to do. Just when you think you are out of the game, a lucky roll puts you right back in and the suspense adds to the fun!
Guess who beat Mommy?
