How to perfect the untucked shirt

How to perfect the untucked shirt

Hi guys! I hope you had a great weekend. On a total whim, we hit the #nsale on Sunday. Kerry scored on some new dress pants, Jackson came home with some fun Vineyard Vines gear (a baseball hat and t-shirts) and I got a great deal on a Clinique makeup remover set that was $30.00 off! We didn’t go on a spending spree, but feel good about our Nordstrom purchases.

While I was waiting in the lounge area for Kerry and Jackson to come out and model their clothes for me, I noticed that one of the Nordstrom’s staff was giving a man advice on how to wear a casual shirt. The topic of wearing shirts partially untucked came up in conversation – something the customer hadn’t heard of before. It occurred to me that perhaps it might be helpful to provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to perfect this popular look.

The aim of the untucked shirt is to look purposefully casual. The shirt should be loose in the middle so it drapes over the waistband a tiny bit. You definitely do not want to tuck it in severely. To begin, find a shirt that is long enough to tuck in. Next, tuck the entire shirt in the front of the waistband, leave the back of the shirt untucked. Gently pull up each side of the shirt near your hip. Leave about 6-8 inches of the shirt tucked in the front. That’s it – easy as can be!

You’ll see in the before and after photo below how much more interesting my outfit is to have the shirt partially tucked in with a coordinating belt. You will look slimmer and more chic. And P.S. This is a good style for those of us who have a little belly that we want to hide. This technique is equally popular with men and women, so go for it!
