Paradise Island Bahamas
For our spring break getaway, we booked a much-needed vacation to Atlantis on Paradise Island, Bahamas. We’d been before, but not since our son was two years old. Fast forward 9 years, our now 11-year-old boy and three-year-old girl were the perfect ages for this family oriented resort. Our only goal for this trip was to unplug from the grid, which meant leaving all the technology behind us. I was aiming to have a vacation like the ones I remember as a kid. We spent 7 unscheduled days doing whatever we wanted because “vacation Mommy” doesn’t care what time you go to bed, what you eat, or if you brush your teeth before you go to sleep. Everyone loves vacation Mommy.
Each morning my husband would slip quietly out of our hotel room while we were sleeping and come back with hot coffee, assorted juices and amazing freshly baked pastries, donuts or breakfast sandwiches – he never asked us for any orders so it was always a fun surprise to see what treats he’d bring back. After breakfast we’d slather with 70 sunscreen and head to one of the many pools to set up camp for the day. We’d alternate between the pools and the ocean and several hours later we’d have lunch only feet from the sand and sea. After lunch, my husband would take our 3-year-old back to the hotel room for a nap (I suspect he napped too) and my son and I would go on all the lazy and not-so-lazy river rides. Dinner was somewhere different every night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I probably took over 500 photos, but here are just a few…
For brunch, I’d make a beeline for the closest cafe and order a frozen mango drink, to which they added about an inch of Jamaican rum that floated on top. DEE-LISH-OUS!
The sky was so blue, just incredible.
Our son snorked for hours, he saw so many different and colorful fish and spotted a stingray.
Headed off the the Lazy River.
Being chased by her brother “the shark.”
At Dolphin Cay to get close and personal with some Dolphins.
One of the highlights of our trip was to have a Dolphin Encounter, we were able to touch and feed a dolphin – our daughter was ecstatic.
Mommy and Me matching wetsuits.
Out last night in the Marina area, Ben & Jerry’s had a long line but totally worth the wait.
We didn’t do a lot of shopping, but I loved this cute boutique with straw hats and coordinating beach bags.
This little purse was so beautiful and made such a charming noise when all the shells touched.
