I think it is fun to experiment with makeup tricks from time to time. Most days, I keep my makeup to a minimum because I prefer a more natural look. The three things that I rarely leave the house without wearing are eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick/gloss. My favorite brand of makeup is Clinique and I keep two sets of identical products – one next to my sink and one in my handbag. The chubby sticks are amazing because they glide on, last for hours and you never have to sharpen them – simply swivel up. I use the shadow tint for eyes in Bountiful Beige (there are 13 other colors) and apply directly to my lids. I like using it in the morning because it brightens my eyes. I follow with high impact mascara in black. Mascara is the go-to beauty product I rely on to make me look alert and awake. I use the moisturizing lip colour balm in a Whole Lotta Honey, it adds color to my lips but it is not too bright.
It’s fun to play around with techniques that give me a more glamorous look especially if I am going out on a date night with my husband or out for a special occasion. I am still experimenting and learning how to apply makeup and these step-by-step tutorials are so helpful.
The eyebrow. What a huge difference it makes to have a well defined eyebrow, I use the CLINIQUE Brow Keeper in Warm Brown. It has a brush on one end and a brow pencil on the other and I have found that resting my hand on my cheek when applying the pencil keeps my hand steady and the line smooth. Be sure to brush up the pencil into the eyebrows (step 4). Applying highlight below and above the brow (step 5) makes the eyebrow look flawless. Just avoid going too heavy ladies or you’ll look like Groucho Marx (-:
The Smokey eye. I love this look! You can tell she’s wearing eye makeup but it is not overdone.
Fuller Lips. I have to say that this trick for fuller looking lips actually works. I use the CLINIQUE chubby stick sculpting highlight in the middle for a 3-D effect. Applying a shiny gloss as the last step cinches the look.
Face Contouring. Using makeup to contour your face can bring some dramatic results. You only need three colors, one to highlight (the areas with HL), one to bronze (the areas with BR) and one to blush (the area with BL). The key to this technique is blending in all the makeup by blotting it with a sponge so it looks seamless and natural. I have a small nose and I like contouring my nose so it looks longer and thinner. CLINIQUE has chubby sticks for contouring, highlighting and cheek colour balm.
