{here is a photo of our front door with the natural wreath I made – it is simply adorned with one gold star}
Earlier this week, I posted on how to make a glamorous ornament wreath, click here to see how to make it. The ornament wreath is in our living room and my heart skips a beat whenever I see it. It’s a keeper. For the outside of our home, I did something new this year. I wanted a more natural look, that says “Welcome” but still have some Christmas sparkle. So I bought 7 yards of Western Cedar evergreen roping and draped it around the peak that surrounds our front door and wrapped it in lights. I added gold stars that I had purchased at a tag sale for $1.00 (don’t you love a bargain?) and dotted them around the roping. With the leftover roping, I made a natural wreath and had some left over to decorate the urns that flank our front door steps. I wanted to share with you how to make the wreath. This is a fun DIY project, quick and easy to do – the best part is that it is about half of what I would have paid for a finished one.
I used about 3 yards of Western Cedar.
You will need green wire, wire cutter and a wire wreath form.
I used a 12″ wire wreath form that you can get at any craft store.
Select large pieces of the Western Cedar, it will make the wreath more lush and it will require fewer pieces.
Begin by attaching the first piece of Western Cedar to the wire wreath form with green wire, wrap it several times.
Loosely wrap the entire piece of Western Cedar to cover the wire wreath form and help the Western Cedar take the circle shape of the form.
Next, add the second piece of Western Cedar just like you did the first.
Once you have two pieces of Western Cedar, add the next piece at the gap. Continue doing this until the form is covered.
To hide the stems, cover the stems with a final piece of Western Cedar, and then tuck the stem under the evergreens and wire to secure.
Here is the final product!
