Welcome to Connecticut in Style!
Today is January 6, 2015 and it’s a special day to me for many reasons. It marks the launch date of my lifestyle blog and I couldn’t be more excited. I am seconds away from clicking on the word Publish and making this blog official and it feels like such a momentous occasion for what started as an innocent question.
It all started several years ago during dinner with a group of friends. Someone asked me if I had a Pinterest account. “A what?” I said. After much eye rolling and receiving looks of “get with the program” I went home that evening to find out what Pinterest was all about. Within an hour of creating my Pinterest account, I was in love and then I became obsessed. Please understand that I have an issue with magazines. I am someone who habitually rips pages out of magazines on everything from beauty tips, fashion trends, interior design, to gardening and food recipes and I have binders upon binders full of tear outs. No nail salon or doctor’s office within miles was safe from me and my fake cough as I tried to mask the sound of pages being ripped from their magazines. Pinterest is an endless digital magazine and it is all at my fingertips. This is my idea of bliss.
As I started creating my first boards and pinning I noticed that many of the Pinners that I follow had blogs, and a little dream started. I didn’t give much more thought to starting a blog until we lost power during a very bad hurricane. My family and I had retreated to the safety of our basement for several hours until the storm passed. My husband and our two children were asleep and I was feeling restless, so I grabbed a flashlight and ventured upstairs. I wandered around the house for awhile looking out the windows at all the trees that had been uprooted and finally retreated to our son’s bedroom because it had the best moonlight. I sat on his bed and shut off the flashlight, but knew I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t in the mood for reading so I took some paper from his desk and started writing. I wrote about all posts I would write if I was a blogger and when 6 pages of notepaper was filled, I realized that I needed to follow my heart’s desire. Maybe it was an epiphany. Whatever it was, I am glad for it.
I’d like to thank Bobbi at Ready to Blog for making my dream a reality. When we collaborated on the blog design, I asked for classic, modern and sexy – and she delivered. To my amazement we pulled this off over emails and phone calls with her based in England and me in Connecticut. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Bobbi.
I started this blog to share ideas and photos for everyday lifestyle inspiration and connect people with what’s chic and fabulous about Connecticut.
