Healthy After School Snack from Connecticut in Style
I enjoy making healthy after school snacks for my children, Jackson and Catherine. We really like smoothies consisting of fresh berries, organic whole milk and yogurt. But, I’ve found that when winter is upon us, fruits don’t taste the same. The local farm berries that we devour in the summer are replaced by berries that have traveled a pretty long way, and I can taste the difference. Even though bananas take a long journey too, in my opinion they still taste just as good. We tend to fill in the berry gap with bananas – and a lot of them! I like to find ways to change them up since we are eating more than usual and wanted to share a quick and delicious after school snack that my kiddos love. Slice 2-3 bananas in 1/2-inch thick slices, spread about 1 tablespoon of your favorite peanut butter on each slice and then sprinkle with mini chocolate chips (we’ve already agreed that chocolate is actually good for you, see my whipped hot chocolate recipe here).
