Happy Friday! Where we live, the kiddos in our community Trick or Treat on Halloween night, regardless of the day of the week. Most of the time, there’s school the next morning which means that the fun has to end at a reasonable hour. There’s something special about Halloween when it falls on a Saturday night because bedtime flies out the window in favor of extended fun for everyone. I like having something a little special to sip, and this cocktail, the Suffering Bastard, contains many of my favorite ingredients. The smokiness of the whiskey is balanced by the freshness of the citrus. It sets the mood for all sorts of mischievousness.
Directions: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add all the ingredients except the ginger ale. Shake until well blended then pour into a glass with some ice cubes, top it off with ginger ale and a squeeze of fresh orange juice. Garnish with lime and orange.
- 1 ounce bourbon
- 1 ounce gin
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- 4 ounces chilled ginger ale
- Juice of half an orange
