T minus one day until Halloween! I’m not sure what’s happening in your part of the world, but the Northeast has been deluged with rain the past day or so. We were going to decorate the outside of our home, but we’re forced to hold off. The weather is supposed to be beautiful on Halloween, so we’re going to have to work fast to get everything set up.
The good news is that nothing could stop me from dressing up our fireplace mantel. The fireplace is one of the many reasons why I fell in love with our home and I am constantly redecorating it! I kept it simple this year because the decorations will only stay up for a few days. Small touches like these really helps put our family into the Halloween spirit and my kiddos think it’s fun. Also, because the mantel is visible from the front door, Trick or Treaters get a glimpse of how we have decorated inside too.
Halloween Around Our Home
I often get asked about where I get things to decorate for the holidays. As far as sources for Halloween decor, most of the items I have are from Party City and Target. Places like Home Goods has a great inventory of things as well. I’ve amassed a decent collection of Halloween decor because in general, it is very inexpensive. The battery operated TRICK OR TREAT light swag was only $3.00 – it was a no brainer. And, believe it or not, some of the pumpkins are faux. One of the tips I have learned is that when you mix real and artificial items (like flowers) the overall impression is that everything looks authentic.
The traditional color scheme is predetermined which makes everything straight forward. I used the TRICK or TREAT sign in the middle of the fireplace as the focal point. It contains all the colors of the rest of the decor and ties everything together so beautifully!
Here is the mantel without the candlesticks. It never ceases to amaze me how important candles are to help create a cozy atmosphere.
Love this simple lighted swag that spells TRICK OR TREAT – $3.00 at Target!
Made myself a martini with a gummy eyeball. It was kind of weird to have it staring up at me like that…
