Happy Friday! I know that the word “hate” is really strong. So I won’t use it. Instead, I will say that I intensely dislike the first three weeks of September. The sheer amount of stuff that comes flying at you when you are a mom, wife, friend, and blogger in the month of September is staggering. To stave off the exhaustion, mild panic attacks gave me the adrenaline to keep me going.
It got pretty intense there for a while. Happily, my shoulders have visibly relaxed and are no longer near my ears. With that emotional release, a rushing in of appreciation came for my husband. We’ve both been so insanely busy, I haven’t had the emotional bandwidth to do anything but focus on the priorities of the day. And between our children, his job, my work and my blogging, Kerry somehow always manages to have my back.
I’ve never taken my husband for granted, but when we have weeks like these, it really illuminates how lucky I am. Kerry is a hands-on father and husband and I couldn’t ask for a better partner. He’s ready to fill-in for me, whatever the task. We don’t have a concept of traditional male and female roles in our marriage. He’s just as comfortable with a newborn as I am adding windshield washer fluid to our cars. We don’t have the “it’s not my job” philosophy in our marriage. Except for spider removal.
As I am sitting at my keyboard today (several hours later than my normal Friday morning posts) I wonder how I would have ever managed these past weeks if I was a single parent. So, kiss your partner today and tell them how much you appreciate them. And yes, this goes for all those Moms whose husband’s travel extensively or work in the city and don’t get home until 8pm. I know that sometimes you feel like a single parent, but they are making sacrifices too. They’d much rather be home with you and the kiddos.
If you know a single parent, consider helping them with carpooling, a playdate or give them an open-ended invitation for them to text you in an emergency. They are the true heroes. Have a wonderful weekend xo
