We took down and stored our holiday decorations a couple weeks ago, but invariably I find a few more items that need to find their way to the attic. Last weekend I was reorganizing our 2 year-old daughter’s book shelf and came across our favorite children’s Christmas stories. Along with the Christmas lights and ornaments, we take these books out in December and read them every week until Christmas. It gets us into the holiday spirit and our children love being reacquainted with their favorite stories. One of our favorite Christmas books is “Two Christmas Mice” by Corinne Demas. It is a charming story of two mice who seem destined to spend a lonely Christmas until an inspiring idea brings holiday cheer to both of them. As I was sorting through her books I was reminded about how much I like the bookshelf we have in her room. Reading is a big part of our daily routine and I knew we needed a piece of furniture that could serve multiple purposes.
This book shelf is from Ikea and fits most of our daughter’s books. In the cubby holes below the books are fabric storage boxes from Pottery Barn and are convenient for everyday items such as diapers, extra blankets and stuffed animals. I doubt that Ikea and Pottery Barn collaborated on the design, so it was a stroke of luck that the boxes fit perfectly in the bookshelf.
About once a month, I reorganize the books and group them by author. When my husband and I read to our daughter we like to read several stories from the same series in one sitting.
These are just of few of my all time favorite children’s books.
The bookshelf is the perfect height for little ones.
