DIY Art Project

April 13, 2015

Heart Art Final Image.jpgDIY Art Projects
After launching this blog (I can’t believe it has only been 3 months!) I’ve been spending a lot more time in our home office editing photos and writing posts. Our office is perfectly functional but lacked personality. In a previous post I shared my obsession with gold polka dots being used to glam up walls and I decided to order the dots and put them to good use over the weekend. I also wanted to add some art to the walls and was inspired by a piece of artwork I saw that was a large pink heart in a frame. My printer can’t print anything that large, so I got the idea that I could make my own heart using beautiful wrapping paper. It was surprisingly simple, and I ending up making three hearts in different paper. I will store them one behind the other in the frame, and I can easily change the artwork whenever I feel like it. I chose the wrapping paper based on a swatch of fabric that I am going to use to recover our office chair.

HA fabricThis is the fabric I will be using to recover our office chair (I will reveal the before and after photos in another post)

HA SuppliesI used a square frame from IKEA, poster paper, a heart shape, wrapping paper and Elmer’s spray adhesive

HA Step 1I held the heart shape against the wrapping paper and carefully cut it out

HA Step 3Place the heart shape on the poster paper, using a pencil mark the bottom and top of the heart so you know exactly where to place it after you have sprayed the adhesive on

HA Step 4Place the heart on a scrap piece of paper (or newspaper) and spray the back of the heart

HA Step 5Using the pencil marks as a guide, center the heart on the poster paper and insert into frame

HA Step 6Here is the final product, I’m loving the mint green and gold

HA all three

All three hearts (that I will store one behind the other in the frame and change out whenever I want)
