Design Lines, Ltd.
Raleigh, NC-based interior design firm, Design Lines, Ltd is exactly the type of company that comes to mind when I think of highly collaborative interior design. Based in the Mid-Atlantic region, they have chosen not to lean towards the deep-rooted traditions in the South or the contemporary styles more dominant in the North. They elegantly balance the compass points by adhering to their design philosophy of developing beautiful, livable solutions for their clients rather than imposing any particular style. One of Design Lines calling cards is their adaptability – their work and portfolio span the entire east coast to meet the needs and fulfill the dreams of their clients.
I’m thrilled to showcase two homes from their portfolio. The first is a Golf Course home, owned by a former work colleague of mine. Charlene and I reconnected through Social Media and when she came across my blog, she introduced me to Design Lines, Ltd the firm she used for the interior design of her home. I had the pleasure of speaking with Hilaire Pickett Martin, the Director of Communications who is also the daughter of founder, Judy Pickett. We talked about what it takes to have a successful business for 35+ years and how they approach each job. I can tell you from personal experience that they exude Southern charm but are very passionate about meeting the fast-paced demands of any Manhattanite. Their uber talented team of designers transform people’s living spaces into an environment that they love.
Golf Course Home
The homeowners have wanderlust. If they are not in one of their three residences dotted along the east coast, they are traveling the world. Their living space is polished and chic dominated by a gray, white and black palette with pops of yellow.
The use of polished chrome and white marble counters in the master bath gives it a luxurious Four Seasons Hotel feel.
The gray and black living area has a modern look with touches of graphic patterns.
The kitchen is light and sleek. The gray/white granite countertops anchor the cabinets and highly polished chrome appliances.
The foyer (a glimpse of the powder room) and one of the guest bedrooms. The guest bedroom has two double beds because the homeowner frequently entertains her best girlfriends for weekend getaways.
A highly styled breakfast nook with leather seating (and the owner’s beautiful dog, Barley) was designed to offer views of the golf course with morning coffee. A wine cooler chills bottles of wine for après golf.
The master bedroom is elegant and comfortable. Barbara Barry end tables flank the bed that is made up with monogrammed pillow cases and accent pillows with pops of yellow. The photo artwork above the bed were taken by the homeowner. One is of Central Park and the other is the view of NYC from their apartment.

Next up, a Historic Home in Oakwood
Located in downtown Raleigh, a historic home gets transformed into an clean and airy environment to meet the needs of a busy young family. Design Lines, Ltd. Designer, Rob MacNeill, collaborated closely with the homeowner who Rob describes as “someone that has a great idea of her taste, I worked with her to refine the selections to create the final product.” Drawing inspiration and respect from the historic buildings that surround the home, they doubled the footage and blended a traditional aesthetic with very modern elements. A perfect example of this can be found in the kitchen where timeless calacatta marble is blended with highly lacquered cabinets. I’m in love with the Aquamarine Blue La Cornue range!
The boy’s bedroom above and below. He wanted a bold color and I can’t help but notice he’s a baseball fan after my own heart.
The homeowners have two girls, one loves soft purples and the other soft blues. They both asked for girly bedrooms. All the bedding is custom… isn’t it gorgeous?
The sitting room.
