It’s Super Bowl weekend! Although I don’t watch football nearly as much as I used to, I married a sports fan and every once and awhile I still enjoy watching a game. My appreciation for the game of football started in junior high school. My best friend, Shannon was a huge football fan and we’d spend Sundays at her home watching football with her family. Her Mom would bring in a never ending supply of appetizers and cold beer for her Dad while he sat in his huge La-Z-Boy chair explaining all the plays and calls. They made it such a great experience that I quickly became a fan of the game. Years later I attended Penn State University where football is such a huge part of the culture, and my love for the game continued. I much prefer watching major sports events with a crowd of friends and one of the best places to do that is at The Goose in Darien, Connecticut. Winner of “Best of Gold Coast” The Goose (some of you may remember it as the Black Goose) is a lively bistro and sports bar located 972 Post Road, Darien, CT. One of the best things about The Goose is that it is truly a family friendly restaurant and a great place to entertain when you have guests staying with you. Several times a month they feature live music, check out their events listing here. They have a traditional pub dinner menu, click here to see it. Mostly everything is “comfort food” and my picks from the menu for a Super Bowl gathering would be:
Soups: Award Winning Chili and tortilla chips
Started Salads: Arugula, Endive & Radicchio
Entree Salads: Cobb Salad
Small Plates: Grilled Artichoke Hearts
Flatbread Pizza: San Marzano
Sandwiches & Burgers: Goose Burger
Entrees: St. Louis Style Ribs
Sides: Baked Mac ‘n Cheese
You guessed it, they also have a child’s menu featuring pizza, burgers, grilled cheese, pasta and chicken fingers. If you are interested in going there for Super Bowl Sunday, they open at 5:00pm. Have a great weekend!
