Hi, I’m Sarah O’Brien — the founder and voice behind Connecticut in Style. My blog site’s tagline, a modern guide to classic East Coast living drives most of the decision making when it comes to the types of blogs I write. Classic East Coast living isn’t just about aesthetics – it’s about rhythm. It’s the way summer on the coastline feels slower. The way our towns gather for parades. The ways that tradition repeats. I am not reinventing coastal life, I am interpreting it in a modern way. I celebrate the timeless charm of our coastline – the traditions, the heritage, the enduring beauty – all while sharing it through a present day lens. It’s about honoring what makes New England special while curating experiences that feel relevant, elevated, and inspired for today.
What began as a creative outlet has grown into one of Connecticut’s most recognized lifestyle platforms, celebrating where to eat, shop, and play along our beautiful coastline. But Connecticut in Style has always been about more than curated restaurant lists and boutique discoveries. It’s about living well — right where you are. It’s about slowing down for sunset dinners by the water. Supporting the small businesses that make our shoreline charming. Finding magic in the ordinary Tuesday morning coffee run.
And if I’m being honest?
It’s also about preserving a moment in time.
When I launched Connecticut in Style, my children were little. I didn’t realize then that this blog would become a timeline — a digital scrapbook of our family’s seasons. The beach days. The holiday traditions. The spontaneous ice cream stops. The towns we explored together. One day, when they’re grown, they’ll be able to scroll through this space and see not just where we went — but how deeply I loved this life we built here.
That is the heart behind this platform.

A Little About Me
I was born in Manhattan, grew up in Jamaica (the West Indies) and when my family moved to the States we settled in Westport, Connecticut. After graduating from Penn State University my first job relocated me to Dallas, Texas and then to a few other places I called home. I met my husband in the lobby at Pitney Bowes and it was love at first sight (true story) and we live in Connecticut (obviously) with our two fabulous children, Jackson and Catherine.
When I am not blogging, you can find me in my floral studio, Fresh Flower Bar. I launched Fresh Flower Bar from my laptop at my kitchen counter on the first day of spring, in March of 2018. I thought that the first day of spring was a auspicious date – and I was right. I have been blown away at how my little floral studio has flourished. Within two years, I grew out of my first retail location and relocated to a larger space. My floral studio is now located in the loft area of a modern barn that is situated within one of the most gorgeous outdoor and design living companies. I pinch myself every time I drive into the parking lot! My floral studio is the space where my team and I create daily flower arrangements, prepare for events and weddings, and it is the home to my floral design workshops!
