5-Minute Hairdo

June 15, 2015

CT in Style – A Connecticut-based lifestyle blog.

When our AC kicks on, it finally feels like summer. I welcome the sun and the heat, but not what it does to my hair. My hair is naturally curly and when I blow it out, it gets frizzy. I love smooth curls, but it takes forever to section off all my hair and curl it with a curling iron. Sonia at the Total Look Salon in Southport, Connecticut gave me a tutorial on how to get the same curls, but in a fraction of the time. Here are the before and after photos and step-by-step instructions on how to get summer waves. This is my new summer weather hair routine – and the best part, it takes less than 5-minutes!Before and AfterOn the left is my blown-out (and frizzy) hair. On the right is my new summer hair, 5-minutes later.

1

Start with clean, dry hair. Make a ponytail on the top of your head using a hair elastic. Don’t wind the elastic too tight because you are going to pull your curls through it when you are done. You just want it tight enough to hold your hair in place while you are curling it. Next, separate into sections of about 1-inch wide. Using a hot curling iron, curl each section making sure to curl it all the way down to the hair elastic.

2

When you are done curling all the sections, grasp the hair elastic and pull it through you hair and out. Using you fingers, comb gently through the curls. The exciting part about this is that you never really know how the waves are going to “fall” because it is different every time. Spray lightly with hairspray to hold the waves.

Sonia

Say “hello” to Sonia at the Total Look Salon. She has been my hairstylist for many years – she’s ah-mazing!
